PLACEMENT INFORMATION: Immunisation Teams are responsible for the planning and delivery of all school-based immunisation programmes across Lincolnshire.

PLACEMENT DETAILS: Whilst on placement the student will be exposed to the planning of both mass vaccination sessions as well as individual clinic settings. Students will assist and observe the following:
•Made aware of the cost of vaccines and the importance of managing the cold chain, looking at the transportation of the vaccines and documentation required.
•Will be involved in the setting up of vaccine sessions looking at the health and safety aspects of such and considering privacy, confidentiality and worker safety within this.
•Will be witness to the giving of vaccines and the pre and post care of the vaccinated child.
Students may be exposed to:
•Young people who are aggressive or who swear/scream/shout at staff.
•Young people who faint.
•The processes around record keeping and documentation prior to and following vaccination. The pathway followed for unwell children and our emergency procedures.
•‘Crowd control’ measures in busy periods and potentially offering comfort and reassurance to distressed young people.
