This fantastic opportunity provides young people under the age of 18 the first step onto our Nursing Workforce Development Pathway, offering fully supported training at each stage.

PLEASE NOTE: Individuals over the age of 18 are required to apply directly for a Healthcare Support Worker position.

Our Nursing Cadet Talent Pool Apprenticeship programme is offered as a full-time, fixed term contract of a maximum of 15months, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in accordance with the working hours permitted for young people. The programme offers automatic progression to the role of Healthcare Support Worker upon reaching the age of 18, subject to satisfactory performance and achievement of the Care Certificate for which full training will be provided whilst on the Cadet programme.

During the Nursing Cadet phase, you will embark on a comprehensive training programme working towards your Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 apprenticeship. Working alongside members of a multi-disciplinary team, you will help provide the highest standards of care to our patients, delivered with dignity, respect and compassion. With opportunities across various wards and operating theatres, each Cadet will be allocated to a specific area for the duration of their programme.

Full on and off-the-job training / supervision will be provided throughout the Nursing Cadet programme, ensuring you have the skills and knowledge to carry out well-defined routine clinical duties like monitoring an individual’s conditions (by checking things like blood pressure, temperature or weight), checking on their overall progress, comfort and well-being.

Automatic Progression

Subject to satisfactory performance and achievement of the Care Certificate whilst on the Cadet programme, progression to the post of Healthcare Support Worker will be guaranteed within 3 months of reaching the age of 18. This opportunity will result in a permanent Band 2 position within the Trust following which you will be required to meet the full requirements of the Healthcare Support Worker role, which will include the change to working pattern (working over 7 days and shift patterns).

Following a successful appointment to the role of Healthcare Support Worker, you will be required to continue on your apprenticeship through to successful completion, thereby providing you with the qualification to support further continued progression. Further training and development opportunities along the Nursing Career Pathway will then be made available to you.

Entry Criteria

Our Nursing Cadet Programme has been specifically created to support young people under the age of 18 to take their first step onto our Nursing Development Pathway. Whilst experience of delivering care is not required, we’re looking for individuals with the enthusiasm, desire and passion to work within our hospitals and to provide the very best care to our patients.

Achievement of English and Maths at GCSE grade 3 to 9 (A* - E grade), or functional skills level 1 will be required. However, in the event GCSE results have not been received prior to your application, we are happy for candidates to provide their predicted grades with their application.

Actual results will then be verified prior to a confirmed offer of employment being provided if successful at interview.
